Invisalign

We have known for quite some time now that our oldest child would need braces, but Invisalign was never brought up as an option. I incorrectly assumed that we were never given this option, because my son must not qualify. I never had braces myself so I just didn’t know. Then I got invited to a Sits Girls event that had a brief bit on Invisalign and I was blown away.

  • Invisalign is a great alternative to braces for tweens, teens and adults.
  • Just imagine being able to have your teeth straightened without having metal glued on to them!

My son did qualify for Invisalign and it did not matter that he has extreme crowding or that he grinds his teeth badly. Turns out the orthodontist I went to see did not offer Invisalign, so they never mentioned it. Do what I did and at least investigate if this is a better option for you. Visit www.invisalign.com and select “find a doctor” to locate experienced Invisalign and Invisalign Teen doctors in your area.

After learning so much about the product I think this is what we will do instead of traditional braces.

  • Invisalign Teen clear aligners are removable and can straighten teeth without a mouth full of metal. Meaning anytime he needs to take a photo he can just pop it out and smile normally!
  • Virtually invisible aligners, mean there is less social awkwardness to impact teen’s confidence and self-esteem during an already vulnerable time. Have you met a kid in middle school that is not self conscious!
  • Teens can play sports without fear of injury! This is a massive deal to us. Our son is a competitive gymnast and plays football. He will be able to continue playing trombone without interference from braces.
  • Because it’s removable, brushing and flossing is easy and no food restrictions to worry about either.

I also should mention some of the other info I learned. There are so many misconceptions out there.

Myth: Invisalign is more expensive than metal braces.

Setting it Straight: The cost of Invisalign is usually comparable to the cost of traditional braces and many dental insurance plans cover Invisalign just as they would braces.

Myth: I won’t be able to tell if my child is wearing Invisalign often enough for it to be effective.

Setting it Straight:  Invisalign Teen aligners are made with small blue dots, officially called compliance indicators, that gradually fade as aligners are worn. It’s a quick visual check for parents and teens to confirm they wearing aligners long enough to get results. In fact, clinical data from orthodontists confirms that teens wear their aligners an average of 21 hours per day, just as recommended.

Myth: If my child loses their aligners, it’s going to cost me an arm and a leg to replace.

Setting it Straight: We know kids lose things, even their aligners! That’s why you get up to six FREE replacement aligners with Invisalign Teen.

Has your child done Invisalign treatment? I would love to hear about it and what you thought!
